Since the birth of my daughter, I’ve developed Melasma on my face. Melasma, other wise known as Hyper-Pigmentation or Chloasma, is a common tan or dark skin discoloration, particularly common in women, especially those who are pregnant or taking oral contraceptives. You can read my Melasma story here.

For any woman, or man in fact, this skin condition can start to rule you life. It kinda takes over. It has a life of its own, in that you think about it on numerous occasions every day, especially hoping that other people aren’t looking at it and that your ‘cover up’ is still covering it.

Over the last 20 months, I’ve been looking into and tried various concealers, foundations and even new makeup application techniques to help cover the problem areas but I am also even more interested in trying to lessen it’s appearance long term, using a technique or product other than laser surgery; which sounds way too extreme at the moment, not to mention expensive.

Yon-Ka Solution 46 & Creme 40

I’ve recently received Yon-Ka Solution 46 and Creme 40, available from here, which are part of the Yon-Ka Specifics range, targeted at skin conditions such as red patches, problem skin and especially hyper-pigmentation.

Solution 46 is recommended for superficial pigmented skin related to age, pregnancy, etc and its effectiveness is based on the synergy of two complementary products; this ‘starter’ lotion, which prepares and boosts the clarifying effect, together with Creme 40, the treating cream, which consolidates and prolongs the results.

Yon-Ka says that these products will;

“help clear pigmentation spots and balance the complexion”,

which is really promising and I can’t wait to get started!

Because these products are not an overnight remedy, I thought I would post about them in a few parts; this being the first, introducing you to the products and I will follow up in a few months time, to share my experience.

First Impressions

The packaging of both products is actually really gorgeous. They feel luxurious and not clinical at all (which I find some products like this can). They are sitting proudly on my dresser at the moment and no-one would think they were anything but skin care products.

The thing that hit me the most before I’d even taken the products out of their boxes, was the gorgeous smell! An aroma of lavender hit me, which was such a relief, as I’ve always associated products of this nature to smell rather chemically and these really don’t. Infused with essential oils of lavender, geranium, rosemary, cypress, and thyme, the glorious scent will make the application so much more pleasant!

Solution 46 is a thin, white liquid which in the evening is to be applied using a cotton pad to the problem area and left for 15 minutes before applying Creme 40, which is thick and creamy, on top. During the day you can just apply Creme 40 to the area/s and then apply your normal sun cream and/or makeup products over it.

So Far, So Good

I have just started using both of these, morning and night (as of 28.09.13) and am so far finding it a fairly easy routine to follow. The only thing I have to remember is to remove my makeup, cleanse and then apply Solution 46 a good half an hour before I want to go to bed, so that I leave time to apply Creme 40. I am sure that this will become pretty normal after a while.

So, I will update you on my progress in a little while! I’ve got everything crossed that I start to see an improvement!
