Giveaway | Elf’s Little Black Beauty Book; Review, Swatches & Giveaway!

It’s been a while since I reviewed an eyeshadow palette, so today I thought I’d show you the gorgeous and super cute 48 piece Little Black Beauty Book*, the Warm Edition, from elf.

As you probably know, I own a few palettes from elf, including the 100 Piece Marble Palette, the 32 Everyday Palette and the Baked palette in Seattle and this Black Beauty Book has just as much charm as those and has the added cuteness of being pocket size and designed like a little black book!

This gorgeous set of 48 shadows is just £8 at elf, which is astounding for the amount of choice you get and ultimately the combinations you can create.

What elf Say

“This convenient 48-piece makeup collection for your eyes allows you to have your Little Black Beauty Book readily available any time, anywhere! Keep the Beauty Book in your purse, at home or in the office so you can be your own makeup artist whenever, wherever.

This full assortment of 48 eyeshadow colours allows you to create a look that reflects your personal style for any occasion. The small, sleek design is great for on-the-go beauty touch ups. Each book includes 48 gorgeous eyeshadow shades, a built-in mirror and 1 dual-ended applicator.”

First Impressions

The Black Beauty Book comes in the standard black elf box, which is actually way bigger than the palette itself, so maybe a little over excessive, but it does have a good deal of info on the back as usual, including the directions for using more than one shadow to complete a look. Always good for those who aren’t so confident with colour.

The palette itself is really cute with it’s glossy packaging and magnetic closing feature, which holds the ‘book’ shut. it really reminds me of a diary or small note book, it’s so perfectly sized that like elf say, you can pop it in your handbag for touch ups during the day, leave in your desk at work or it won’t take up too much space in your makeup collection at home.

The colours themselves are fantastic in this edition. There is also a brighter version of the Black Beauty Book; ‘Cool’, which contains much brighter, popping shades, like your electric blues, pinks, yellows and greens. The Warm Edition is full of the more muted tones, which I think is perfect for more everyday use.

As you can see from my swatches, there are some shades that are much more highly pigmented than others. This I find is quite usual with palettes of this size. The left side of the palette is perfect for creating most soft smoky looks and great for everyday use and when you want to be a little more adventuresome, you can add shades like r6, r10 0r r26 to your look.

r10 for example is a gorgeous peacock blue and would look stunning during the summer months and r26 would look beautiful mixed in with l209 and r23 going into autumn. There are so many options to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice!

So What Do I Think?

I think this palette is a great staple for anyone’s makeup collection. It’s price is so reasonable, that there really is no reason for anyone to not want it or already own it.

The built in mirror and sponge applicators are super handy for those touch ups away from home and the size of it is just perfect for carrying in your handbag. Because the ‘book; is made of cardboard too, it is so light you’ll never know it’s there.

I would recommend this palette even though some of the shades aren’t that great, because there are a whole shed load of shades that are. You’ll be able to create so many looks that, like me, it’ll become a favourite in your collection in no time.

I love this palette and always wanted to buy this also had the chance to buy it but was in a dilemma whether I should or shouldn’t. Love all the beautiful colours especially 13 as a transition colour, r10 on the whole lid, r12 at the corner of the eye if you want a smokey look, 120 just to darken the end corner and also the bottom lash line.. and 15 for the highlight. :)

Looks like great little book! For s night out with the girls, i’d use the:
r17- in the inner corner, for highlighting
17 – as a base shadow, all over the eye
    r26- amazing for the crease
    120 – for a complete smoke affect!
    Thanks for you review xx
