There aren’t that many things that I won’t talk about or share on my blog, but when it comes to imperfections (and we all have them); I can be a little more reluctant.
When I first talked about my melasma back in 2013 (I can’t believe it was that long ago!), I was quite nervous, thinking that those who know me would then be automatically looking for those melasma patches because I’d pointed out that I had them. Whereas before I drew attention to it, they could well have been none the wiser.
So I guess what I’m getting at is, we all have imperfections and whilst a lot of them are VERY personal and you would never consider sharing your insecurities about them, I think there are some things that are worth sharing and talking about and after getting over the initial shock that I had any at all, I think that stretch marks are one of them.
Mine are from carrying my second daughter Evalyn. Stretch marks are the result of the skin suddenly stretching and whilst mine are a product of pregnancy they are also common during growth spurts in puberty or a result of weight gain. In which ever way you’ve gained them, most will tell you about how much they dislike them. I did everything I could to prevent mine, like I did when I was pregnant with Grace, but for some reason the minute Evalyn arrived, I was also welcomed with a number of white stretch marks around my belly button area. So disappointing! I’ve always loved showing my tummy; whether it’s a cropped top or in a bikini at the beach or pool but with these new ‘friends’, my first thought was how I was ever going to feel confident to bare my midriff again.
So what have I tried to eradicate the appearance of my stretch marks? Well pretty much anything I’ve been able to lay my hands on! Bio Oil was the first port of call, having used it throughout both pregnancies, I had this in the cupboard so lathered it on at every opportunity. I’ve also tried various other potions but none quite as brilliant as Goodbye Stretch Marks from Mama Mio. If you’ve followed my blog for a while you’ll know that I’ve tried various Mama Mio products already including their skincare range and ‘Get Waisted‘, all which I still use now, so I was excited to see whether Goodbye Stretch Marks would help me feel more comfortable about the appearance of my tummy lines.
The recommended period to use this stretch mark cream is 3 times a day for at least 12 weeks and as with most products of this nature, it’s not about a quick fix….
“Now ladies, let’s have a reality check here. This is not a one night stand that will change your skin forever in one application. We are not going to over promise anything to you because, as women, we know how disappointing that is.” – Mama Mio
I thought initially that it would be quite tricky to apply the cream 3 times a day, but once when I woke up, when I went home from work for lunch and before I crawled into bed actually worked for me. You only need to apply a thin layer, so the product lasts about 4/ 5 months and because the formula is non-greasy, you can put clothes immediately after application. Unlike Bio Oil which is, well, oily and you have to be so careful with your clothing.
I first started using Goodbye Stretch Marks about 5 months ago, documenting their appearance on Instagram and from about the second week I could already see that my skin was far more moisturised, probably from actually moisturising it three times a day you say, but even so, I was optimistic. I continued to use the cream, reading reviews of how it’s changed people’s confidence and looking forward to the results at the end of the 12 weeks.
So a little story before I get to the magic before and after! I wanted to wear a beautiful cropped top that I got from ASOS for months now, waiting for the perfect opportunity. It’s black, off the shoulder, flowy and cropped. Friday night I was going for drinks with some work friends and thought, what the hell. I wore it, probably showed the entire dancefloor my new ‘friends’ as I jumped and raised my arms dancing like a crazy thing, but I didn’t care! This stretch marks cream has definitely made my stretch marks less noticeable and most importantly, it’s given me back my ‘bare my midriff’ confidence!
So on the left is the first day I started using Goodbye Stretch Marks, currently retailing at £45, and the right is at the end of week 12. I think you’ll agree that there is clearly quite a difference between the two; especially the top two and the long one on the far right. I’m so so pleased with how this product has worked for me. I still use Get Waisted as well, which I’m sure is also helping to tone my tummy, along with now being back in the gym and eating a balanced diet. All factors I’m sure are helping contribute to my tummys improved appearance.
I have to admit I was a little dubious about this cream being able to help reduce my stretch marks appearance but I think it really has and enough so that I was brave enough to wear that cropped top on Friday night. Yey Mama Mio and Me!
So now that I’m not so worried about my ‘friend’s I’m just working on tightening my tummy instead. From one insecurity to another!
Have you tried a product lately that’s given you a new boost in confidence? If so, I’d love to hear what it was!
